Originally used as protective clothing, latex has recently gained the
popularity of one of the basic fetish
fashion objects. It is widely used both by BDSM
practitioners and by modern couturiers to create sophisticated fetish
clothing. Fetishists prefer latex rubber because it is more shiny than
matte rubber and fits tightly to the body, producing the effect of
“second skin”. Once made from latex, such ordinary
objects
as stockings,
gloves, suits
and leotards get considerable sex appeal for latex fetishists. Being
translucent by nature, latex is traditionally dyed black for
fetishistic purpose. Latex fetish clothing is made using large rolled
up sheets of different thickness – from 0.18 mm to about 2
mm.
Latex clothing isn't usually sewn, but is glued along the seams.
Polished latex can look rather attractive, but as latex material is
very vulnerable, it needs special care and protection against tearing.
Putting on latex fetish garment is a quite troublesome process. Before
putting it on latex rubber wearers commonly use talc, diminishing latex
friction against the skin, but talc should be polished off very
carefully not to remain visible through the rubber. Other fetishists
resort to a lubricant which helps to glide over latex clothing easier.
Sometimes latex fetish garment is painted directly onto the body,
because its design requires to close seams just in the process of
creation. The removal of such clothing is a long operation which should
be prepared beforehand to prevent the painful “hair wax
effect”.
Latex fetish lovers – or rubberists – achieve
sexual
satisfaction through wearing latex garment or watching their partners
in latex which takes the part of sexual arousal object. Another factor
of latex fetishism is production of sex toys, made from latex for
hygienic reasons. Some latex fetish fans are also medical fetish lovers,
using latex medical gloves and catheters.
